Transferring to NARA

Eligibility to Transfer to NARA

To be eligible to transfer to NARA an RTO must be delivering training and/or assessment or have firm plans in place regarding delivery in more than one State or Territory. Eligibility is determined by the Registering Body in an RTO's home state.

For eligibility requirements and forms see NARA's home page.

What does Transferring to NARA Involve?

Transferring your registration to NARA will involve:

  • a change to your NTIS ID (as outlined below)
  • use of your new NTIS ID and the NARA logo on your testamurs
  • payment of new fees (as outlined below), and
  • becoming familiar with NARA processes. *

Please note: no audit is required as part of the transfer process. State and Territory government officials have agreed that there is no need for any RTO transferring to NARA to re-register or undergo an audit associated with the transfer. At the time of transfer, an RTO’s existing period of registration will remain the same.

* Some NARA processes may differ from those of your current Registering Body, for example, NARA requires RTOs to use an online information exchange for lodging all applications. When considering transferring your registration to NARA, please read the infomation on our website and call or email NARA if you have any questions.

Schedule of Fees

There is no fee for transferring to NARA.

NB: There are some differences in the fee arrangement for Queensland RTOs - refer to:

Queensland  Fees - RTOs transferring to NARA

An annual fee will be payable to NARA twelve months after the date of an RTO’s transfer and annually after the date of transfer. Payment of this annual fee is required for ongoing registration.

NARA will invoice RTOs prior to their annual fees being due and fees are payable only via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). TVET Australia bank account details will be provided with fee invoices to your RTO and all payments must include your RTO's individual NARA EFT Reference Number that is provided on the tax invoice.

Transfer of Registration Details on NTIS

The RTO’s existing State or Territory registering body will determine the eligibility of the RTO to transfer to NARA on the basis of the evidence provided by the RTO and normally within ten working days.

If eligible, the transfer to NARA as the RTO’s registering body takes place overnight with amendments to the RTO’s details being entered on NTIS, the national register.

RTOs transferring their registration to NARA will have a change made to their national ID code on NTIS, a number ‘1’ will be added to the front of the RTO’s current ID number. After the change of registration details appear on NTIS, NARA sends the RTO an updated Certificate of Registration confirming its new RTO registration details.

The RTO’s former State or Territory registering body will liaise with NARA to arrange to transfer a copy of the existing RTO file to NARA.
